Request to join an organization

Ask to join an organization when your email address isn’t at its domain. For example, you might be a contractor with your own company address, or you signed up with a personal address such as Gmail. One of the organization’s Admins approves the request.

Your address is already at their domain?

Then you don’t need to ask. Signing up with an address at the organization’s domain puts you in automatically. See How organizations, members and seats work.

Send a request

1. Go to Settings›Account.

2. Under Organisation, replace what’s there with the organization’s email domain, for example harborlane.dev. Use the part of your colleagues’ addresses after the @.

3. Click Request to join. The button appears as soon as you type a different domain.

   

   Type the organization's email domain, then click Request to join.

You’ll see Request sent to the Admins of harborlane.dev. You’ll get access once it’s approved. Every Admin of that organization gets an email about your request.

While you wait

The Organisation field shows the organization you asked to join and says an Admin needs to approve you. Until then you stay on the Free plan, and you can’t send another request.

Your request is waiting for an Admin.

If it’s taking a while, contact an Admin of the organization directly. Wikidoc support can’t approve requests for another organization.

After an Admin decides

Approved: we email you, and you’re a member of the organization with the role the Admin chose. You get its plan, and you can see the content its members share.

Declined: we email you. You can ask again later.

If you can’t send a request

The app tells you why:

You see	What it means
The Organisation field is grayed out: Set by your email domain, which owns this organisation’s subscription.	Your own domain’s organization is on the Team plan, so you stay in it.
No Wikidoc organisation found for that domain	Nobody at that domain uses Wikidoc yet. Check the spelling, or ask a colleague for the domain in their address.
That is a personal email provider, not an organisation	Domains such as gmail.com aren’t organizations. Use your employer’s domain.
Organisation must be an email domain, e.g. wikidoc.ai	Type only the domain, not a company name or a full email address.
Your request is already awaiting approval	You’ve already asked. Wait for an Admin.
